Project Recap: Hangers @ Centennial Airport

Centennial Airport regrading and repaving

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Enright Asphalt completed a multi-day commercial asphalt repair project at Centennial Airport, addressing damaged pavement, deteriorating asphalt curbs, and significant drainage issues near several airplane hangars.

We worked with the client to develop a repair plan that fit their budget, focusing on the areas that needed the most attention while preserving sections of asphalt that were still in good condition.

The project involved more than 7,000 square feet of asphalt removal and repairs, including full-depth asphalt replacement, asphalt curb repairs, and major drainage corrections. In total, the project required 265 tons of new asphalt.

WORK COMPLETED

  • Full-depth asphalt removal and replacement
  • Asphalt curb repairs and replacement
  • Removal and reconstruction of a 350-foot section with drainage issues
  • Aggregate base repairs and preparation
  • Slope corrections to direct water away from the airplane hangars
  • Installation of 6-inch-thick asphalt in two separate lifts
  • Asphalt compaction

PROJECT DETAILS

Targeted Asphalt Repairs to Stay Within Budget

Rather than replacing the entire parking lot, we worked with the client to prioritize repairs that would provide the most value within their budget.

Several damaged sections received full-depth asphalt repairs, while deteriorated asphalt curbs were repaired or replaced as needed.

This approach allowed the client to address the most pressing pavement problems while preserving areas of asphalt that were still in good condition.

Correcting Drainage Issues Near the Airplane Hangars

One of the biggest challenges was a 350-foot-long section of pavement where improper drainage was directing water toward the airplane hangars.

Simply installing new asphalt over the existing surface wouldn’t solve the problem.

We removed the existing asphalt, repaired the underlying aggregate base, and corrected the slope of the pavement so water would drain away from the buildings rather than toward the hangars.

This portion of the project required careful grading to address the drainage problem before the new asphalt could be installed.

Six Inches of Asphalt Installed in Two Lifts

The reconstructed drainage section required 6 inches of new asphalt.

Rather than installing the entire thickness at once, we paved the area in two separate lifts. Each lift was compacted before the next was installed to achieve proper compaction throughout the pavement.

This provided the required pavement thickness while maintaining the corrected drainage slope.

PROJECT RESULTS

Over the course of several days, Enright Asphalt repaired or replaced more than 7,000 square feet of pavement using 265 tons of asphalt.

The completed project addressed damaged pavement, restored sections of asphalt curbing, and corrected a major drainage problem that had been directing water toward the airplane hangars.

By focusing on the areas that needed the most work, we were able to make substantial improvements to the property while staying within the client’s budget.
