Asphalt Paving Superior Relies On
Superior grew fast. Most of the neighborhoods went in 15 to 20 years ago, which means a lot of driveways and parking lots are now at the point where they need real attention. Enright Asphalt has been serving Boulder County since 1989, and as the go-to Superior asphalt contractor, we’ve helped property owners maintain, repair, and replace pavement throughout that growth. We understand what works in this area and what doesn’t.
Our approach is simple: show up when we say we will, use the right materials, and do the job correctly the first time. Superior homeowners care about their properties, and we respect that. From high-end homes near the open space trails to the commercial centers along McCaslin and Highway 36, we deliver quality asphalt paving, reliable sealcoating solutions, and professional pavement repair with the same attention to detail on every project.
Asphalt Services in Superior
Commercial Paving
Superior’s commercial areas see steady traffic from residents, Highway 36 commuters, and visitors to local businesses. That kind of use demands pavement built to handle it. We engineer parking lots for the specific traffic patterns and load requirements of each property, whether it’s a retail center, medical office, or restaurant.
Denver Sealcoating
At 5,500 feet elevation, Superior gets intense UV exposure that breaks down asphalt faster than lower-altitude areas. Sealcoating creates a protective barrier against sun damage, water penetration, and oil stains. A well-maintained lot tells customers you care about your business. We recommend sealing every two to three years based on traffic levels.
Parking Lot Striping
Clear striping keeps traffic moving and keeps you compliant. We handle standard stalls, ADA-compliant accessible spaces, fire lanes, loading zones, and directional markings. Our commercial-grade paint holds up through Boulder County winters and the intense summer sun.
Asphalt Repair
Small cracks turn into big problems fast in Colorado’s climate. Water gets in, freezes, expands, and suddenly you’re looking at potholes and base failure. We catch damage early with crack sealing, patching, and infrared repairs. Fixing problems when they’re small saves serious money compared to waiting until replacement is the only option.
Driveway Paving
Many Superior driveways were installed during the building boom and are now showing their age. Alligator cracking, settling near the garage, drainage issues. When repairs stop making sense, replacement is the answer. We handle complete tear-outs and new installations with proper base preparation that accounts for Superior’s soil conditions. The goal is a driveway that lasts another 20 years.
Driveway Sealcoating
If your driveway is still in decent shape, sealcoating is the smartest money you can spend on it. The coating blocks UV rays that oxidize the surface, keeps water out of small cracks, and restores that fresh black appearance. For Superior’s high-altitude sun exposure, this protection is especially important. Seal every two to three years and you’ll add years to your driveway’s life.

How Enright Diagnoses Pavement Failure in Superior
Superior pavement fails for six main reasons, and the fix only holds if you treat the right one. Asphalt heaved by Pierre Shale needs a different repair than asphalt damaged by Marshall Fire heat. A contractor who patches both the same way will watch both fail within a season. We figure out what caused the damage before we tell you how to fix it.
Pierre Shale and Claystone Heave
Root Cause: Superior sits on Pierre Shale and old claystone deposits, the same soil profile as Lafayette and Louisville. This soil swells when it gets wet and shrinks when it dries. The ground under your pavement can lift and drop two to six inches every season.
ENRIGHT SOLUTION
Site-specific subgrade preparation with adequate base depth and drainage grading, calibrated to the soil profile we find on your property.
Marshall Fire Heat Damage to Sub-Base
Root Cause: The 2021 Marshall Fire burned through much of Superior, including Sagamore and Rock Creek. The extreme heat broke down the soil structure under driveways and lots, and you can still see cracking and settlement years later.
ENRIGHT SOLUTION
We core the base in fire-affected areas to check for heat damage. Where the sub-base is compromised, we excavate and rebuild with new aggregate so the new asphalt sits on solid ground.
Magnesium Chloride Brine Corrosion
Root Cause: CDOT sprays magnesium chloride brine on US-36, McCaslin Boulevard, and Coalton Road as the main de-icer. The brine sticks to tires and gets dragged onto your driveway. It soaks deep into the asphalt binder and breaks it down over time.
ENRIGHT SOLUTION
Sealcoat every two to three years to block the brine and rebuild your surface protection. If your pavement already shows brine damage, we mill and overlay the affected areas, then finish with a full sealcoat.
New Construction Settlement
Root Cause: Superior is rebuilding fast after the fire, and a lot of new driveways sit on backfill from new construction. If the backfill wasn’t packed down right, it settles slowly over the first few years. Your driveway sinks in spots and cracks.
ENRIGHT SOLUTION
We check for settlement before any repair and rebuild the base in compacted lifts where it’s needed. For sunken sections, we mill out the affected area and pour a new base before laying asphalt.
Wind Erosion and Surface Drying
Root Cause: Superior sits at the mouth of the foothills wind corridor, and Chinook winds regularly hit 80+ mph. The hot, dry wind sucks moisture out of the asphalt binder and makes the surface brittle. West-facing driveways take the worst of it.
ENRIGHT SOLUTION
We sealcoat wind-exposed driveways every two years to lock moisture back into the surface. That keeps the binder flexible and protects your asphalt from drying out.
Freeze-Thaw Alligator Cracking
Root Cause: Superior crosses 32°F more than 100 times some winters. Water seeps into unsealed cracks, freezes, expands about 9%, and slowly breaks the sub-base apart. The damage hides under the surface until it shows up as alligator cracking.
ENRIGHT SOLUTION
For small alligator-cracked sections, we do full-depth repair and rebuild the base underneath. For larger areas, we mill the surface and put down a fresh asphalt overlay.

Superior's Elevation and Soil Challenges
Superior sits at the base of the Foothills, which creates a specific set of conditions for pavement. The expansive clay soils swell when wet and shrink when dry, constantly stressing foundations. The elevation means more UV exposure and wider temperature swings between day and night. And the proximity to the mountains brings unpredictable weather patterns.
All of this means base preparation matters more here than in many other areas. We account for drainage, soil movement, and temperature extremes when designing every project. Shortcuts on base work lead to premature failure. We don’t take shortcuts.
Building Permits for Driveways & Parking Lots in Superior
The Town of Superior requires permits for most driveway and parking lot work. Requirements vary depending on the scope of the project, whether it involves changes to drainage, and the property’s location. Commercial projects often have additional requirements related to stormwater management and ADA compliance.
We handle the coordination. When you work with Enright Asphalt, we’ll identify what permits are needed, help you understand the requirements, and make sure everything is in order before work begins. We’ve been through this process enough times in Boulder County to know what to expect.
