Enright Asphalt completed an asphalt overlay for Hillel Academy of Denver, covering the main parking lot and the adjacent playground. The scope included edge milling, localized asphalt repairs, a paving-fabric interlayer installation, and a 2″ hot-mix overlay—more than 300 tons in total.

Schedule & Sequence
- Friday: Milled the perimeter edges and performed minor asphalt spot repairs to correct surface defects and ensure clean tie-ins.
- Sunday: Installed a paving-fabric interlayer (Petromat®) across designated areas to slow crack reflection and block moisture.
- Monday–Tuesday: Paved a 2″ overlay. With rain in the forecast late Monday, the crew paused early and returned Tuesday to finish paving, achieving a smooth, uniform surface across the lot and playground.

What is Petromat—and why we used it
We installed Petromat, a nonwoven paving fabric set into a hot asphalt tack coat between the existing surface and the new overlay. This interlayer absorbs stress and spreads it out, which slows reflective cracks from working their way up into the fresh asphalt. It also forms a moisture barrier that helps keep water out of the base, extending the pavement’s service life. For a school campus with light vehicle loads and lots of foot traffic—like Hillel’s playground and staff lot—Petromat adds a layer of protection that helps a 2″ overlay stay smoother, longer.

Result
The finished 2″ overlay ties cleanly into curbs and drains, improves ride quality, and delivers a darker, uniform surface that stands up well to daily use and Denver weather. By combining targeted repairs with a paving-fabric interlayer beneath the new mat, this overlay is built to last and resist premature cracking—especially important on a campus setting.
